From China site Chiphell fourm, an insider reckons that...

(

)
RV770 has 800 Stream Processing Units (SPUs): 160*(4D + 1D)
So that 2.5 times more of SPUs...

What? I heard that the R700 will have 480ish shaders. The RV770X2 might have that many but just the RV770 having 800 that seems way to many.

Seeing how well RV670 did, I'm not worrying.

Yep.
Whats really getting me is how everyone keeps harping on about a 256bit+ memory interface.
R600 had 512 and 1024 internal, and it simply made naff all difference. Let down by not only under utilised "stream" processors, but by the fact rv670 met in terms of performance on a 256 memory bus, and they could have done rv670 easier than r600 on 55nm.
Seeing as gddr5 is coming out with higher clocks, surely they may as well save cost on the interface, and pcb and jsut put a higher clock, more expensive memory instead?
If they can increase the stream processors even 20%, but double the clock as per nvidia they will make such a huge leap in performance, and maybe ati will become less "no aa\af= 1 card, aa\af = crossfire".
really hope they sort this out this time round, despite rv670's big success.
