Best case scenario
We have seen some marketing talk from the DAAMIT machine and it was funny to read that its upcoming RV770 mainstream chip will end up twice as fast as RV670.
Well this is probably right but this would naturally be the best case scenario. You should count on average 20 to 30 percent performance improvement but in some resolution and at some settings, the new RV770 might really leave the RV670 aka Radeon 38x0 cards in the dust and score twice as fast.
So, basically Fudo did the math and concluded that the increase of GPU frequency from 775MHz to 1050MHz, and number of pidishaders from 320 to 480 is 30% increase in processing power. Yes, do the math by yourself: ((1050*480)/(775*320)) = 2.0322 and that is ladies and gentlemen, the 100% increase from the presentation, what is so hard to understand about it?
And as for the 9600GT - did not Fudo notice the 9600GT has twice the processing power at the same frequency due to architecture change inside of the chip? Because he 8600GT was the same performance class as the 7600GT, that in the time of introduction of 8600GT many people decided to buy the 7600GT, because it scored better at any game at that time. Plus it was cheaper.
