The only advantage you will get with a boxed CPU is a 3 year warranty vs a 90 day or one year warranty with a OEM CPU. You will have to throw away the Intel fan and get a after market fan for it.

Mucky That is of course untrue for EU... we have at least six month warranty (but the meaning "warranty" has to sides of a coin in the EU), but if you overclock the warranty is out of the window anyway... I thought we have 12 month of "Gewährleistung"? ... (sorry for non-germans & non-EU citizens - there is no english word for it, it's a kind of "guarantee by law" that can't be lowered by companies - but additionally we have the "normal" guarantee in the EU as you might know it) Juergen |

You have "Gewährleistung" for two years, but after six month you have to prove the fault on the product was there when you purchased it... Nobody is able to do so, so "Gewährleistung" is quite useless after six months. best, Eliot. |

Maybe in May ... as long Intel can't ramp up 45nm process, it will be a bit longer - and they don't need to rush, because AMD has no competitive offer. best, Eliot |

I've seen a few sources speculate that it'll be available around the week of March 24th. If this is true, then I'm gonna be one happy camper - as I've been waiting since September for this CPU. If Intel still can't ramp up production, however, I'm gonna have to cave and get an E8500.

But truth be told, I'm still holding out for a Q9450. |

The E8400 represents the most value for the money. With the stock HSF, the CPU can reach around 4.0GHz under 1.40v, whereas the Q9450 can only reach around 3.80GHz for $150 more. However, in the long run (considering that one isn't upgrading to Nehalem until 2010 or later), the Q9450 would be a better choice. |
