Hello! I have in mind to upgrade my system and i was looking for ATI 3870. The question i have in mind is if that VGA is compatible with the GA P35-DQ6. ATI works on pci express 2.0 and the motherboard specification shows only pci express ... meaning 1.1
Could anyone help me with some information, please? I need to know for sure if there are no problem. The VGA is not available in my hometown and i need to order it online. If those two are incompatible, I will buy one on the X38 chip ... possibly GA X38-DQ6. I was looking for the older P35 chip because I won't upgrade to the new 45nm processors or the new DDR3 1600+ memories.
For your information, the processor will be Intel Q6600 ... an affordable quad core Smiley ... non-native, I know ... but more powerfull than AMD's new processors. Thank you!

All the new PCI-Express 2.0 video cards will work in PCI-Express 1.x motherboards.  There are really only two main benefits of 2.0 and they are:

 1. Double the bandwidth, so now the x16 slots have the bandwidth as if they were x32 slots.
 2. PCI-Express 2.0 has more power available to the GPU, even though current GPU's still have the extra 6pin power plug.

So yes 2.0 GPU's should work just fine in 1.x pci-express slots just as USB 2.0 devices will work in USB 1.x ports.
