Even after the release of terabyte HDD's i still am a fan of the price/preformance of 500GB drives in raid

Locally, we can get 500GB drives for $99 (Canadian) and 1TB drives for $270

Soo i'd prefer to save some money and go with 2 500GB disks

There are some 750GB Samsung F1 hard drives, which are very fast and quite cheap.  They cost about 100 Eur., which is a fair price I think. They have 32MB Cache.

yeah Samsung offers 1.5 TB for sub €200, of course you need to buy two drives and each will have 32GB. that sounds like a great deal

Meanwhile the Samsung F1 1TB is nearly the price/GB of an 750GB, it's just 1.4ct more expensive...
Of course that adds up to €14 more expensive, but you need less drive to store same amount...
In cases where you can only stick four harddiscs to allow proper airflow, it's 3TB vs 4TB

And the 1TB has a better price ratio compared to the 640GB drive, which uses only two platters, whereas 750GB and 1TB uses three... for HTPCs 640GB may be the better choice because it should stay cooler.

i don't think i could live without my 1T seagate, it's definately the sexiest thing about my computer

500 x 2 in RAID 0 is better.
bu if u want 2000 gb, then 1000 x 2

once you've been screwed over by raid it's hard to go back and you don't really need the extra speed when your only using the storage for movies

I agree , I've got screwed for three time about raid0 !!!
so i won't ever go for it again !!!
