Wednesday's meeting was also used to clear up what Richard characterized as a swath of misconceptions and rumors concerning the delayed R600 —or, what is to be AMD/ATI's first DirectX 10-capable graphics card.

"We pushed out the launch of the R600 and people thought is must be a silicon or software problem…it's got to be a bug," said Dave Orton, president and chief executiveof ATI. "In fact, our mainstream chips are in 65nm and are coming out extremely fast. Because of that configuration, we have an interesting opportunity to come to market with a broader range of products," he explained.

"Instead of having them separate, we thought, lets line that up, so we delayed for several weeks," Orton continued, referring to the R600 family as a whole, which AMD now says will come out at the same time (a matter of weeks as opposed to months, according to Richard) instead of just the high-end version.

The R600 will be called Radeon x2900 and will be available in XTX (top of the line), XT, and XL variants.

No firm date was ever given for the R600, but last week AMD did admit that the card had been delayed, giving no other reason than to say that the company was "repositioning the card."

17  Welcome to Fudzilla Forum / Suggestion / Discuss this article on: March 01, 2007, 11:25:07 AM

I've noticed you have a "Discussion about Articles" section on the website but within the reviews there is no option to discuss the article (that you sometimes see at the bottom of reviews and news items on other web sites).

It would make it far easier to click on a link within the article to discuss it, rather than try to find the article on the forum yourself.

It might also be worth considering getting rid of the "Discussion about Articles" sub forum and creating the links directly in the relevant forum instead.
18  Welcome to Fudzilla Forum / Suggestion / Quick Links for the lazy on: March 01, 2007, 11:13:29 AM

Wondered if it is possibly to add a hyper link for the words fudzilla on the left and right of the forum. With the left one going to the "Home" of the forum and the graphical Fudzilla on the right going to www.fudzilla.com

I find it far more easier to navigate when you can get back to the start easier Smiley
19  Hardware / Processors - CPU / Barcelona to have 40% floating Point & 10+% Int Gains over X5355 on: March 01, 2007, 11:01:08 AM

Just been reading EE times and it has an AMD exec stating that there are going to be double digit gains over the 2.66 Clovertown. It's a little difficult to work out which Chip will, so you can only hope it's the 2.3ghz Barcelona and not a future 2.7  Grin

Anyway it's an interesting read as they demonstrated the Quad Core with a R600 combo (probably a AMD/ATI motherboard too).

Separately, AMD gave one of the first public demos of the R600, its next-generation graphics controller that uses 320 multiply-accumulate units. The company showed a Barcelona-based system using two 200W R600 graphics cards to hit a terabit/second benchmark.
