HP to put webOS operating system on all its PCs:

Mercury News staff report   http://www.mercurynews.com/business-headlines/ci_17575829?nclick_check=1

Hewlett-Packard plans to install its webOS operating system on every new PC it ships, starting next year,
as the tech giant seeks to expand its footprint in the software business, according to new CEO Léo Apotheker.
In an interview published this week, Apotheker told Bloomberg News that HP intends to offer the webOS software
along with Microsoft's well-known Windows operating system on all of its PCs.

The company hopes to increase the adoption of webOS,
both by PC users and by independent developers who create applications for PCs and mobile gadgets.

Update: Engadget reports that there will be two models of the upcoming tablet, a 9-inch codenamed Topaz and a 7-inch going by the name Opal.
At least the Opel will have multiple variations including a WiFi-only model, then at launch, one for both AT&T 3G and Verizon LTE networks,
with an AT&T LTE version scheduled for July 2012.

Heads-up Folks...

ICANN warns against government control of the Internet:

Remarks by Rod Beckstrom
President and Chief Executive Officer
Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)
Opening Ceremony
Internet Governance Forum
Vilnius, Lithuania

14 September 2010

As prepared for delivery

I am delighted to be in Vilnius - capital of unique, historic and beautiful Lithuania, now a member of the European Union.

I begin my remarks with a simple reminder: the Internet works. Every minute of every hour of every day. The domain name system processes hundred of billions of transactions each day. More transactions than the world's financial markets, more than the telephone systems.

The fact that the Internet works is the ultimate tribute to the multistakeholder governance model. Governments could not do it alone.

The Internet has the power to transform the human experience. It enables communication on an unprecedented scale and is woven into billions of lives around the world. Its openness, its inclusiveness, its relative lack of regulation make it a fertile field for innovation and competition, an engine for much needed economic growth.

Why mention inclusiveness? Because everyone using the Internet should and must have a voice in its governance.

If governance were to become the exclusive province of nation states or captured by any other interests, we would lose the foundation of the Internet's long-term potential and transformative value.

Decisions on its future should reflect the widest possible range of views and the wisdom of the entire world community – not just governmental organizations.

Fud now posted his own bull article laming on Amd's liano design saying it is K8 and obsolete and wont be able to compete with intels sandy bridge.

such as:

Sandy Bridge features Intel's second generation Core architecture, supports automatic overclocking and frequency adjustment for both CPU and GPU and K8 certainly doesn’t have that.

Thuban obviously already has a simulair turbo core feature moving it to another design should be quite possible but may not even be necessary.

I dont know what he thinks but i have no doubt that AMD's graphic core will be vastly superior to the something intel can only wish to come up with.
automatic overclocking igp's dont make much sense if they use a very poor and ancient architecture.
just until recently intels IGPs weren't even able to run the vista aero interface properly.
Let alone compete with something simulair as a radeon HD3870 or beyond in preformence.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/dis...rocessors.html

yes it wont be the fastest chip out there but that isn't its goal it is to be a mid-range chip affordable/preformence ratio and power efficient for the masses.
Infact Liano is a very promising CPU+GPU solution especialy for notebook designs this is an epic win.
What is happening to Fudo? I know him well, and he is smart, but this stuff is, well, dumb.

That said - http://www.semiaccurate.com/2010/02/...nm-llano-core/

It is K10.xh, no question, but it is heavily massaged too. Fudo is dead wrong. He is also wrong on Sandy, but that is another story.

60  Hardware / Graphics Cards / new Quadros: 28July10 on: July 28, 2010, 03:16:40 PM
Even before NVIDIA's Fermi-powered video cards were launched earlier this year, the company went on record as saying that the architecture was all about general-purpose and massively-parallel computing. While this may not have seemed all that important to gamers, the professional and workstation crowd probably couldn't have been happier. Now, the company is finally releasing Quadro graphics cards based upon the new design to put those massively-powerful chips to work.

CUDA-Power

The flagship of this new line is the Quadro 6000. Considering that it features the same 448 CUDA cores as the GeForce GTX 470, we're confident this model is based upon the GF100 design, rather than the tweaked GF104 found in the new GTX 460.  However, unlike any consumer product, this card is equipped with a full 6GB of error-correcting GDDR5 memory.

While the top-of-the-line model isn't launching until sometime later in the autumn, two other cards should be available immediately. The Quadro 5000 comes equipped with 352 CUDA cores and 2.5GB of memory onboard, while the Quadro 4000 is endowed with 256 cores and 2GB GDDR5. Mobile solutions based upon the same architecture should also be available at some point in the third-quarter of the year.
