Interesting. I don't know many specifics about the inside of a fab but could those be traced to specific masks or similar?

are there figures on the %s of successful vs unsuccessful attempts at unlocking all these "locked up" features? And also the overclocking performance of the unlocked chips. It would be interesting as it might shed some light on the testing done, these are probably higher spec chips (in a lot but not all cases) that failed so just had the failing component disconected but perhaps they are fine at lower ratings.

I think it has closed now but Open Office were doing a redesign of their GUI, calling for general design suggestions. It would have been good to get something in there, I don't know where they are going but I certainly hope it isn't the horrible ribbon inspired design that was initially proposed. Another example of a closed source horrible idea being copied (or at least the copy being suggested) in an open source project

If i understand correctly what you are saying there davidzo about AMD GPU/CPU single chip solutions, I think they will definately be made at GF, I don't see AMD outsourcing their CPU line that much, probably can't do it under their contract for the x86 license anyway

There we go, I think we have solved the problem for Nvidia, they just subtly suggest it to their partners to do this. There must though be something in their contract with Intel that dictates what they are allowed to use the chipsets for, unforunately we wouldn't get to have a look at these (or understand them if we did lol)

Looking at the continued horrendous yeilds from TSMC I would hope they are at least considering it

I call Linux a closed OS because It's most definitely not a mass market or even geek market. I think even hard core geeks are going to get sick of messing with Linux. As some of us know when you get older, you just want sh*t to work and the only thing I want to geek on Is hardware.

Obviously you don't know any hardcore geeks or even normal geeks. The people you thought of as Geeks may be marsians, but as far as i know geeks, few of them even consider fiddling in windows because it takes so much time to get things to work properly and start doing something, its really a hassle for most of them. Yeah, maybe if you get older, you just want the sh*t to work just like windose.

Wow that GUI sounded pretty useful, specially when not using a standard mouse as your input method eg touchpad and to a lesser extent touchscreen, although I don't think it would work to well if you are doing a bit of work while avoiding the mouse (such as writing code or similar where you don't exactly want to reach for the mouse but can still get around using <alt> etc so long as u aren't one of those EMACS using people lol). Are there any developed distros that use this interface at all or is it just you musing?

Did i mess something up on my end or do you guys use a different font in articles now? (or also quite possible I need new glasses lol) It looks okay but some numbers look a little weird

Was reading an old review of the chip and it seemed pretty impressive but have any been announced? The only one I have heard of was the Big Bang Fusion board but I thought there would at least be another out there somewhere, possibly not with the i7 socket

As far as I know (but don't quote me on this) all of the 5xx0 line support eyefinity. There are big benefits to it as well in they are only treated as a single monitor to the system. From the last things I had heard the Fermi line did not include a similar technology but can still support more than one monitor but in the traditional fashion.
