Yup, thanks for the explanation in PM

True I guess it did help me a bit on that side of things. Things are changing fast but you can still never get the combos that you are after. Like AMD 790 FX (think it was that one at least) boards with 2 sockets for desktop

Yeah I have heard of Puppy but never anything good from people that have tried it. A bit immature at the moment I think.

What were you after with a home server? It might seem a bit extreme but Ubuntu has a cloud edition of their server software if you want to go down that route...

This seems as good a place as any to discuss cloud computing. Do people really think it will live up to the hype? Personally while I love cloud based solutions for specific applications (google docs) I just don't think it will work for everything. The demos for cloud based gaming is cool and all but you need to have a decent connection to be able to do anything, it completely removes the single player offline option for those that want it.
50  Hardware / Processors - CPU / Re: Futuristic Intel Chip Could Reshape How Computers are Built on: December 03, 2009, 03:07:05 AM
I saw this. I am a bit sceptical about it right now. For a similar system larrabee there is an estimated 300W draw for 48 x86 cores. I am also think the new interconnect architecture is rather dubious with the reworking of caching. If it works then awesome but I see it being a bottleneck for many applications

I wanted to see if there was more information concerning it. Also wondering how much Forum staff would actually know about this kind of thing. Thought it would be a completely seperate group of people who would deal with launch dates and hold it closely until they were ready

interesting but probably ment to go in one of the other Hyrda threads?

Wow, that is pretty bad luck for ATI. Who has to foot the bill for the misdone chips? DAAMIT or TSMC?
56  Hardware / Graphics Cards / Re: 5970 no longer available... on: December 02, 2009, 11:57:44 AM
Any news on the reason? failed cards from ATI or something else?

Do you have a link or has it been removed already?

Probably at CES?

Yeah it does sound interesting.

Seen as GF have their 40nm up and running are their any figures on yeild? And any indication as to why TSMC's is so bad? Thinking of it there are a few things that could be the problem and not all of them would be solvable in future generations which could be a big problem for TSMC and as a result everyone that want to buy a discreet card.

F***ing ugly.
It's likely I would feel stupid for buying a video card that looked like that.
Instead of wasting time on making a video card look like a bloody toy Asus should concentrate on tweaking the circuit board and power conversion of the card...

100% agree, it isn't the first card that they have put out with this cooler and while there is improved performance over stock it is no where near as good as some of their other models. I think they are just playing off of their F1 sponsorship deals
