1  Hardware / Processors - CPU / Re: Phenom II 940 Benchmark on: December 16, 2008, 02:58:57 PM
Don't "install OS", simply use previous installation for the same mainboard, where is the problem?

How about using Arctic Cooling Freezer EXTREME with fan on 100%?

But you are right, that without the overclocking tools and proper BIOS you might not be able to do much.

i take it you got the bad end of the stick with a gigabyte mobo? And if you don't mind me asking what model?
Do you remember intel 865 motherboards? That was total dissaster, no matter which manufacturer, even BURNT OUT COPPER on some motherboards!
Simply, the 35um copper for power hungry P4 processors (easily sunk 76A and more) was too little to bear with the prehistoric switching transistors and low switching frequencies of 50-100kHz.

No, I don't blame Gigabyte, I blame ALL the manufacturers using thin copper on heavy loads and our motherboards then blow out or age prematurely. The 35um layer is fine with Sempron and lowrange Athlon processors... up to 65W which is ~50A, but for heavy overclocking and currents of over 80A it is insanely thin.
3  Welcome to Fudzilla Forum / Discussion about Articles / The Foundry will do 32nm SOI CPUs ((surprise, surprise!)) on: October 16, 2008, 03:35:37 PM
And now Fudo found out that the 45nm factory will also manufacture 32nm SOI CPUs.

Contrary to our previous report, The Foundry Company will do Silicon on insulator in 32nm manufacturing process. We believed that SOI stops at 45nm. The Foundry Co. boys will continue to use SOI for its CPUs in the new 32nm FAB as this is the way to go, at least this is what company sources have told Fudzilla.

Surprise! It was ALL in the news The Foundry announced during their very first day of existence.

Next time will Fudo be surprised that AMD will introduce 32nm SOI CPUs on time, or ahead of shedule, writing: "we did not expect that"
4  Welcome to Fudzilla Forum / Discussion about Articles / The Foundry's 32nm prediction - Will it "certainly" be behind Intel schedule? on: October 10, 2008, 09:00:23 AM
News reporters just LOVE to run around and sprout nonsense. While it claims that you need so many bilions for each new fab and that intel will have a new fab, etc, it completely fails to observe that the 45nm immersion litography process can be upgraded to 32nm in a similar fashion that the graphics industry uses - that is - without replacing all the equipment, just fine-tuning and using finer masks.

First microprocessor vendor to insert immersion lithography into its production line, providing key learning at 45-nm that can be leveraged at 32-nm ahead of other foundries

5  Welcome to Fudzilla Forum / Discussion about Articles / Ultra Durable WHAT??!!?!?!? on: September 24, 2008, 10:03:28 AM
It is hard to express on how many levels we have been ripped off.
I mean, WHICH CRETIN allowed power plane on 35-micrometer copper? I can't believe the level of idiocy involved. Ane yes, we are talking about some 50-100A on 35-micrometer copper planes!
Now, Gigabyte started making mainboards with standard 70-micrometers thick copper plating for the power plane (which is still no miracle by any means, especially for currents of about 100 amperes!

the "2oz" flinstone unit means actually "2oz of copper per one square foot". This translates to copper layer thickness of 70 micrometers.
more at the Gigabyte website:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/WebPage/mb_080924_ud3/data/tech_080924_ud3_ultra-cool.htm

In other words: the new design is slightly less underdimensioned than the old one, also, use of the new leadless chip scale sized SMD transistors shoul be mandantory as the ones available allow for 2-5 Megahertz switching frequencies which can greatly unload capacitors and provide smoother voltage and/or react quicker to changing load.

All-in-all Gigabyte admitted they have been treating us like cheap bastards who deserve motherboards surviving enough to the end of the warranty period. Thanks!
6  Welcome to Fudzilla Forum / Discussion about Articles / Re: RV770 to be twice as fast as RV670 claim on: April 17, 2008, 01:12:06 PM
I've been holding out to buy a new card for soo long but really all i play is bf2 and the occasional sinful session of wow but any guesses on what fallout 3 will need?
512MB verson od HD3850 or 3870 is more than adequate for anything. Well most people play on HD2600XT or 3650 and are happy with it.

One more thing:Folding@home now works on ATi HD2400-3870 series! Cheesy
7  Welcome to Fudzilla Forum / Discussion about Articles / Re: "Whoop-ass" vs "Whup-ass" on: April 13, 2008, 12:45:50 PM
It's an American term, so I'm guessing the article in question is David's. I doubt any of the other writers uses this term, they worked for British sites and I don't think the Brits use "whoop-ass"/"whup-ass" much.
Why not sticking to the standard "kicks a55"? Or just simply say that it rocks ;-)
8  Welcome to Fudzilla Forum / Discussion about Articles / Intel vs. NVidia war on computers - a joke ;-) on: April 11, 2008, 05:48:54 PM
Okay, so Intel and NVidia managers got to resolve their dispute whether GPU or CPU is the better computer part.
So, they managed to sit behind the computers with Intel managers equipped with the lastest Core2Quad Extreme, a 45nm, 4GHz processors, and NVidia managers had in their computers the very latest graphic card - a GeForce 9800GTX.

The game to be played is Supreme Commander Forged Alliance, on 80x80km map ... both computers have expensive mainboards, 1kW power sources and 4GB of RAM.

The battle is about to begin any moment now.

I forgot to mention one more rule: The nVidia team has no CPUs and the Intel doesn't have a GPU. Well, all computers are lacking monitors too, they were rather useless, that is.
9  Welcome to Fudzilla Forum / Discussion about Articles / Re: RV770 to be twice as fast as RV670 claim on: April 11, 2008, 05:42:19 PM
Low price, high power, that is. How much is low price and how many FPS is high power is relative, but expect the new cards be as well mixed as the previous generation (current HD3000).
10  Welcome to Fudzilla Forum / Discussion about Articles / Re: article writing quality on: April 11, 2008, 05:40:41 PM
Seems most articles i read have sloppy grammar/spelling. Ive noticed it lately, though it might not be a new thing. Its like they havent been proof read sometimes.
Yes, the grammar is bad, at least in English. In your own sentence above are three (3) errors. Not that bad, fudo can still make some more ;-)
Note that none of the writers is a native English speaker.
11  Welcome to Fudzilla Forum / Discussion about Articles / Re: RV770 to be twice as fast as RV670 claim on: April 10, 2008, 01:00:14 PM
Basically... like most casual gamers, I am limited by the price... so I want a high-performance card for little investment. That is where are the RV700 cards heading I think.
12  Welcome to Fudzilla Forum / Discussion about Articles / Re: Voting poll: Do you think that the CPU is more important than the GPU? Say y on: April 10, 2008, 12:57:31 PM
Graphics FTW!!
Then we won't have to spend extra money and we'll get greattttt gaming performance!!
Well, you don't really play Supreme Commander, do you?
There is a reason why maximum number of units in Supreme Commander is so limited (choices are 250,500,1000 units) - when are only four players playing, the game performance drops drastically with every new unit and with every command. On old 1.6GHz Sempron I had some 500-800 units in a game mod which is played on a chequered field, after issuing commands to move... the reaction time was so slow that I lost the game. Some units took as long as few minutes to calculate their paths and go...

In regular game it is also noticeable that the more units you have the slower they respond to your input. And their proper response to what you command is the key to victory.
13  Welcome to Fudzilla Forum / Discussion about Articles / Diode patent infringement investigated on: March 27, 2008, 12:24:17 PM
Professor claims she holds original patent

BULLSHIT. Many people own many patents of things they have never been able to prove to work, patents for applications which required anly 10-20 years of further development... The whole system of patents is ridiculous. One man in Australia has recently patentd" a whee, bicycle and some other already existing things, just because patent office allows him to do so.

There are many patents, of things that might be constructed in the future, but are actually useless due to no one being able to construct them now. What miss Professor claims is funny. WHY, oh WHY did she NOT manufacture the diode when she has patented it, like she CLAIMS? Does she have a patent that the sky is blue and the water is wet too?

I think she deserves exactly the same pay the inventor of the blue led got. NOTHING. His pay was actually less than the one of his wife who was a nurse in a hospital.
Now, when everything is done, researched, developped and finished, NOW she steps up, in a microsoft-like manner and says: "you stole my work".

Send her to hell or let her speak here to explain what she aimed to do to defend her position.

Her statement is almost as ridiculous as wuold be if I accused Fudzilla of patent infridgement of my post that I am posting here.
There is no use of any invention kept in secret and claiming being first when actually someone brings it out later in the future far, far away.
14  Welcome to Fudzilla Forum / Discussion about Articles / Re: Sparkle announces P860 Turbo Calibre = a.k.a. Turbo button reborn on: March 12, 2008, 02:21:34 PM
I think the Turbo button started with XT machines to provide compatibility between 4.77MHz and 8MHz - our school had some such machines. The 286 had it for... a reason, which... nobody knew what it was.. but hey! It was COOOL, computer witha TURBO could go FASTER than a standard computer. We all believed that, so I see no reason why current kids could not believe it. Cheesy
15  Welcome to Fudzilla Forum / Discussion about Articles / Voting poll: Do you think that the CPU is more important than the GPU? Say yours on: March 12, 2008, 02:12:54 PM
I think the 5 options above should covere every one of you, computer users. There is a maximum of 3 votes per user, so you can express your needs for all your computers or your job.
