Hardware / Graphics Cards / Re: 5970 no longer available...

I have been keeping very close eye on the availability of all Radeon HD 5970 cards from various AMD partners, particularly in the Americas region. MicroCenter listed the Diamond Radeon HD 5970 on Friday at around 11:35am PST and it's still available for purchase, although at a very hefty price premium. You can check it out here: http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0324814 Only one problem that prevents me from buying it right now: On Black Friday, I went to my local Micro Center and inquired about incoming shipment times and availability dates. The employees were nice enough to inform me that new incoming shipments arrive on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at around 9:00am PST. While this isn't much help for those in Canada and other portions of the Americas that doesn't include the US, it still provides a hint of insight into the distributor channel for future availability.

2009 - U.S. Government's New Agenda:Invest in University-Based Research: Expand research initiatives at American colleges and universities. Provide new research grants to the most outstanding early-career researchers in the country. Deploy Next-Generation Broadband: Work towards true broadband in every community in America through a combination of reform of the Universal Service Fund, better use of the nation's wireless spectrum, promotion of next-generation facilities, technologies and applications, and new tax and loan incentives. America should lead the world in broadband penetration and Internet access. Transportation: As our society becomes more mobile and interconnected, the need for 21st-century transportation networks has never been greater. However, too many of our nation's railways, highways, bridges, airports, and neighborhood streets are slowly decaying due to lack of investment and strategic long-term planning. President Obama and Vice President Biden believe that America's long-term competitiveness depends on the stability of our critical infrastructure. They will make strengthening our transportation systems, including our roads and bridges, a top priority. Prepare yourselves for the world of 2010 and beyond.. lift off.

Intel chairman Barrett to step down Former CEO to leave in May, ending a 35-year career at No. 1 chipmaker.NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Intel Chairman Craig Barrett will step down from his post in May, ending a 35-year stint at the world's No. 1 chipmaker, the company announced Friday.
Barrett, who joined Intel in 1974, also served as the chief executive of the company from 1998 through 2005.
"Intel became the world's largest and most successful semiconductor company in 1992 and has maintained that position ever since," said Barrett. "I'm extremely proud to have helped achieve that accomplishment."
Barrett said he was confident that Intel has the right management in place to continue its leadership in the chip making industry.
Jane Shaw, a board member since 1993, will replace Barrett as non-executive chairman in May.
Earlier this week, Intel CEO Paul Otellini announced that last quarter's profit tumbled 90% to $234 million, and reportedly told employees that he couldn't rule out the possibility that Intel might actually lose money in the current quarter. It would be the first time that's happened in more than 20 years.
The company also announced Wednesday that it will be cutting production at two U.S. silicon wafer facilities and closing three facilities in Asia, affecting between 5,000 and 6,000 workers.
Shares of Intel (INTC, Fortune 500) rose 3% in mid-afternoon trading, but the company's stock has lost more than 40% since August. http://money.cnn.com/2009/01/23/technology/barrett_retirement/index.htmDon't forget to watch his video interview from September as well.
