62  Hardware / Processors - CPU / Re: Intel Announces "Intel Atom™" Brand for New Family of Low-Power Processors on: March 05, 2008, 07:10:39 PM
*Update*  the Intel Atom processor family has received its first preliminary benchmarks:

I wounder how usefull a Pi-Test for real-world application is....
I doubt it is usefull at all...

I wonder if there is any decent motherboard with onboard graphics chipset for intel processors !!!!
I think G45 wouldn't be good as well , that's a pity.

G45 will be much slower than any HD3450/780G chipset - of course Intel may surprise us, but I doubt it.

Well I was just worryed about not having enough amps.

As always it depands on the configuration. With an old quad-core you may have issues, otherwise you should be fine.

Forget they cheapo ASUS and ASRock boards. They are not intended to do good overclocks, besides of the cheap components used on it.
G965 is not an good overclocker itself.

On the Intel side I would stick to normal boards (Gigabyte EP35 Series for example) and cheapo gfx cards such as HD3450, If the PC is intended for HTPC only, wait for AMD 780G board to emerge, because they have a much better price.

the only firm witch have a EFI Bios ist MSI, so far as i know

Apple is the only one who does only EFI. But infact they did it only to protect MacOS from running on normal PCs.

Yes, I did understand what you meant.  "You get a good impression," however, not the most accurate portrayal of actual gameplay in a real-world scenario.  Did you read the article posted above?

Nope, I'm an arrogant bastard, so I don't read the article Wink
As long the AI is involved, it will give you a real world impression.

I didn't understand your question.

The question is allocation @ so called "channel".
I remember first batch of 8800GT cards, about 500 for Germany and 0 for Austria...

69  Hardware / Motherboard / Re: SLI on X38 on: March 04, 2008, 06:30:30 AM
so is not only on intel Skull

On Skulltrail Intel put two nVidia chips onboard, which do infact nothing, except enabling SLI.

Of course any Chipset is able to do SLI, it's just a question if the driver let them.

Even savegames and a script will not be adequate for doing a proper test.  HardOCP says it best by concluding that "[they] think the real world computer hardware testing methodology is vastly superior to most of the synthetic and canned benchmarks we see today."  Many will argue that timedemo and script benchmarking are the only scientific approaches to video card performance analysis that can be trusted. Why you would want to trust a performance metric that is in no way shape or form going to relate to your gaming experience is beyond me.  Have a read of their testing methodology.  I think it is the truest way to benchmark a game, as it goes as far away as possible from "synthetics"

Hard|OCP:  Benchmarking the Benchmarks (February 11, 2008):  http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTQ2MSwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==

A savegame and a script which moves your avatar will give you quite proper results - this was what i meant. Of course the AI is not always allocating the same CPU load, but if you repeat several times, you get a good impression.

What is the meaning of "shipping" ?
10 CPUs per country or something like 1000?

Do you not remember the conflict between ATi and Nvidia that happened in June over Call of Juarez?  I think ATi has a fair share in this so called "unethical behavior" that you speak of.  Have a read to refresh your memory:

No I do not, because it's most of the time nVidia doing it, besides driver "optimisation".
Nobody says AMD is holy, either.

Besides we all know that using benchmarks are infact worthless, because they do not reflect the speed of the actual game. You need savegames and script to do a proper test, where you will see the framerates are much below the "benchmarks" anyways...

Personally, I don't mind spending the extra (and ridiculous in my opinion) few bucks gettin an E8500, as long as I can get top-notch performance from the Penryn family for the next year and a half until the 32nm Nehalems are out.  But truth be told, I'm still holding out for a Q9450.

There is no difference between E8400 and E8500. They behave exactly the same and oc results are not in the slightest different... To pay €60 or $100 more is just stupid.

74  Hardware / Hard Disk Drive / Re: Samsung F1 - 2 x HD502IJ, 2 x HE502IJ, or 1 x HD753LJ? I Need A New RAID Co on: March 04, 2008, 05:58:00 AM
However, the price for the RAID edition of the drives on many sites backordering them is already $145 or so for the 500GB editions.  This gives me the notion that I should just get the 750GBs from Newegg regardless of the model.  What's your opinion on this?

It always takes two to three months till samsung hdds reach their level. If you can't wait that long, buy now, but be sure to backup always.

I'm gonna have to cave and get an E8500.

Whatfor you will buy an E8500 which costs much more compared to an E8400? The multiplicator does not hinder to overclock nicely.

Eliot.
