A little too much money for most people.

$300 US is for very early adopters.  Wink

If $75 US, the volume of sales would go up quickly.

Here is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 article with "High-End Multi-Core Processors Compared"
http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=2&id=2169

The table will show you all the new processors at a glance.

I would try looking for sample systems that others have already put together.
(try browsing the sig lines of Q6600 overclockers, and see what they are using...)

Here is a sample I found from http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/q6600/3.htm

Test Setup:
Intel Q6600ES
Intel Bad Axe 2
2x1Gb Mushkin XP8500 (running DDR2-800)
Mushkin 650 Watt PSU
Gigabyte 7900GT
Seagate 750Gb Sata2 HDD
Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2

Intel E6400 and E6600
Gigabyte 965P-DS3
2x1Gb Mushkin XP8500 (running DDR2-800)
Mushkin 650 Watt PSU
Gigabyte 7900GT
Seagate 750Gb Sata2 HDD
Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2

It looks like I won't be getting a Q6600 after all after seeing that I'll need a new PSU.  The quad core proc uses up 714 watts vs 384 watts for a dually.  That's a big difference and if I could afford to buy a new PSU, I would.  That's with a GF 8800 GTX too BTW.  You need at least a 850 watt PSU and preferably a 1K.  Bummer, but oh well...that's life I guess.

The TDP of 105 Watts for the Q6600 should not be a problem with most power supplies.
Icc max 115 Amps
VID 0.85 - 1.50 Volts

Are you including two 8800 GTX in SLI mode for the Power requirement?
