Western Digital to scoop it up

Under the reported plan, Fujitsu would sell all HDD plants for $660 to $944 million. According to Nikkei, Fujitsu's HDD unit has been posting losses for quite a while now and the deal should be finalized by the end of the year.

Competition in the HDD business is heating up, huge drives are readily available at ridiculous prices, driving margins down, and SSDs are becoming more affordable with each passing day.
