Don’t dream dreams that Intel's mobile quad-core will end up cheap. Intel plans to launch a few mobile CPUs, including its first Core 2 Extreme, quad-core on August 17th.

This is just a day before the scheduled beginning of IDF 2008. The new Core 2 Extreme QX9300 works at 2.53GHz and supports FSB 1066 and has 12MB of cache memory.

Now, take a deep breath, as it will cost no less than $1,038 each, which is three times more than $340, the price of a 2.53GHz clocked dual-core.

The Core 2 Extreme QX9300 has a 45W TDP, and it will be anything but cool.
