Radeon HD 4870 X2

Dual-chip, Radeon HD 4870 X2 is aiming for mid-August launch, which may cause serious availability toward early September. AMD plans yet another hard launch and it currently waits for the final driver.

We believe that the launch driver for Radeon HD 4870X2 is Catalyst 8.8 and there is a beta of this driver available for testing purposes, but its still not WHQL’d or polished enough for launch.

With this launch, AMD should officially dethrone Nvidia from the performance leader place, but we are sure that Nvidia works night and day to launch its 55nm reaction to this dual-chip beast.

From all we know, Radeon HD 4870 X2 is faster than Geforce GTX 280+ in most scenarios.
