Cebit 08: 8800GT cooled by hybrid

MSI has showcased a new cooling solution that will debut on its 8800GT graphics card series. The special feature of this cooler is that it actually only powers up when the card hits 87 degrees.

The new cooler features four heatpipes and it comes as a dual slot cooling solution. The fan on the cooler isn't spinning until the card hits, or goes over, 87 degrees. This means that the card should be completely silent during idle mode and the fan has enough power to keep the 8800GT temps at bay during load.

The fan will actually start to spin when you launch a 3D application that will push the card over 87 degrees. Even when spinning under load the cooler will only produce 32dBA of noise.

The new hybrid cooled 8800GT card should be available soon.
