Roadmap: January launch

Intel has decided to increase the price of its upcoming FSB 1600 processors simply because it can and AMD is not even close to 3GHz. The Core 2 Extreme QX9770 clocked at 3.2GHz with FSB 400 will now sell for $1,390 or a bit more, as this is the price if you buy in quantity from Intel.

This CPU is still scheduled for a January launch, but we still don't know the exact launch date. This is a hefty price and after the retailers add their profit, it might mean that these CPUs will sell for as much as $1,500 a piece, and this definitely tells you a bit about availability of such a product.

The QX9650 clocked at 3.0GHz and FSB 1333 will stay at the $990 price.
