Launch on Tuesday

Nvidia’s next generation GPU codenamed Fermi will launch in 2009. Jensen didn’t want to talk about it, some other people also refused to tell us the date but one of the Senior people at Nvidia did confirm that the chip should ship in 2009.

So if you are after the fastest and probably the best single GPU that can do a lot of cool computing, this might be the one for you. We still don’t know the price but we would not be surprised it if launches as $399 part for a single and probably $649 for dual. Of course, this is more of an educated guess rather than a fact that we can confirm.

We were concerned that Fermi will only ship in 2010, which might be too late but with a 2009 launch even if it's just last weeks of December, Nvidia will surely benefit more than with early Q1 2010.

On the other hand, if you absolutely can't wait and want a DirectX 11 card that is available today and is at the same time the fastest single GPU around you can easily reach out for a Radeon HD 5870 or the cheaper 5850 as these are available today.
