Will let Mac users play with it
Google has rolled out a new version of its Chrome Web
browser and has said that a version of the Mac browser will be out in a few
months.
Version 3.0 of Chrome for PCs brings improvements to the
browser's interface, including faster performance and "themes" that
allow users to customise how the browser looks. Chrome holds a distant No. 4, with a market share of
roughly 2.8 percent and apparently Google is hoping the new version of the
browser will double that.
The internet search company is readying a battery of
updates, along with efforts to forge new distribution partnerships it hopes
will soon make Chrome a much more significant player. A Mac version of Chrome is currently available for
testing and will be released by the year's end. Quite how Google thinks that it
will convince Mac users to use a browser which does not have the blessing of
Steve Jobs and is similar to their own Safari is not clear.
People like Chrome because of the speed and Verson 3 goes
like the clappers, but has not managed to get the wide appeal of Firefox as an
alternative to Firefox. According to market research firm Net Applications,
Internet Explorer had roughly 67 percent of the worldwide browser market in
August, while the Mozilla foundation's Firefox had 23 percent and Apple's Safari
browser had 4 percent.
