Sales up 77 percent, thanks to UFC 2009

If THQ has anything to be thankful for, it has to be the decision to bring the UFC 2009 title to market. The company is dancing in the streets over its sales, which have seen a 77 percent increase to $243.5 million for the quarter.

The upswing was powered by UFC 2009, which now has sold a surprising 2.9 million units and it continues to climb. Red Faction: Guerrilla has sold over 1 million units so far, and while not as many as THQ might have hoped, it nonetheless contributed to the $6.4 million take for the quarter.

The news from THQ seems very positive; and considering that many thought that they were in serious trouble and might be headed the way of Midway, it seems that the measures that they have taken are paying off. We think that whoever at THQ decided to secure the rights to UFC should get a serious bonus, as this decision alone might have single handedly saved the company.
