Large focus shift on
mainstream for 2H 2009
Today, sources
close to Intel have pointed out that the company recently announced plans to
restructure its marketing strategies for the second half of 2009. Rather than introducing
entry-level netbook and nettop platforms, it has decided to maintain a solid
focus on its mainstream level audience with the Lynnfield LGA 1156 desktop
platform.
Many times, we’ve mentioned that Intel's 32nm dual-core chip
with 45nm IGP codenamed Clarkdale should start selling in Q1 2010. The same
will be the case for Pine Trail-M (netbook) and Pine Trail-D (nettop) platforms,
which are based on the NM10 express chipset combined with a dual-core Atom D510
1.66GHz or single-core Atom D410 1.66GHz processor.
The great part about the Pine Trail-M netbook platform is
the fanless design, all thanks to the inclusion of an integrated memory
controller and the repositioning of the IGP onto the silicon core itself. This results in a
significantly lower TDP, and looks to be great times for the netbook market on
the horizon.
