Acer expects to ship 12 to 15 million netbooks in 2009 |

Netbooks to make up quarter of total notebook shipments
Acer said yesterday it expects netbooks to account for 15 to 25
percent of its total netbook shipments in 2009. Acer says it will ship
between 12 and 15 million netbooks this year and expects demand to stay strong as telecom operators start selling more netbooks.
Researchers at IDC expect total netbook shipments in 2009 to jump by 20
percent to 26.4 million units, and this obivously means Acer will stay
the world's premier netbook maker, possibly with a market share in
excess of 50 percent. Apart from being a leader in the netbook segment,
Acer has also leaped into the thin and light notebook market with its
Timeline and TravelMate series.
Acer is currently the second largest PC maker, trailing HP with a 19.7
percent market share versus HP's 22.1. However, should it continue to
grow, it could end up overtaking HP next year.
