P45 chipset to go EOL

According to a number of hardware manufacturers in Taiwan who are to make an appearance at next week’s Computex, Intel has confirmed that its next-generation Lynnfield processors and the P55 chipset will be available in stores on Tuesday, September 1st.

The sources also commented that mass production of the hardware would take place at the beginning of July, with the first P55-based motherboard samples being available later in the month. Soon after, shipping out of the Taiwanese factories will start in early August and it usually takes around thirty days to get stock in the retail channels.

At the same time, the now one-year old P45 chipset is set to be end of life once the P55 replacement arrives in early September. However, Intel socket LGA 775 motherboards will continue to be manufactured well into 2010 on either then G41 or P43 chipsets.
