New owner

Circuit City has gone through a difficult period, closing its doors in the process, but now it’s been brought back to life. It was purchased by Systemax Inc. on May 19th 2009 for about $6.5 million, and it seems like this company isn’t keen on letting Circuit City go to waste.

Furthermore, since the purchase included the customer records of the original Circuit City, Systemax is asking users whether they want their “personally identifiable information” transferred to the new Circuit City. Note however that this does not include credit card data or other financial info. Users who chose to opt-out before June 9th will have their info purged and will no longer receive Circuit City e-mails.

This doesn’t mean that the stores will be reopened, as there’s no mention of it, but it does mean that the brand will stick around. The company is touting the new Circuit City with “Lower Prices, Wider Selection, Faster Shipping, World Class Service”, and while we wish them luck, we’ll still reserve our judgment until we see Circuit City firmly afloat.
