Digitimes reports that TSMC has been making inquiries about photovoltaic (PV) production equipment, which would mean that this semiconductor manufacturer’s name might appear on solar energy harnessing equipment.

The company plans on entering the PV manufacturing with “high entry barriers in order to achieve market segmentation” while at the same time raking in the dough from semiconductor business.

However, Digitimes’ sources expect TSMC to manufacture key items for PV technologies’ equipment, rather than have turn-key production lines.
