According to a new report at DailyTech, the OCZ Summit series solid state disks are expected to be on the market by the end of April. This time around, OCZ intends to aim this product line at the "premium" market, with performance expected to be at best.

The drives will feature Samsung controllers and firmware along with 64MB of cache to improve random read and write performance. In other lineups such as the mid-range Apex series, the company uses JMicron controllers as they are usually amongst the cheapest to produce.

Sequential read speeds are expected to be around 250MB/s, while sequential write speeds are expected north of 200MB/s. Firmware is still under development at Samsung, however, so performance numbers can always fluctuate with the final product.

Overall, the design and power consumption level are similar to the 256GB SSDs that Samsung produces, using a measly 1 watt during load. As far as goes, OCZ will offer 30GB, 60GB, 120GB and 256GB models. Pricing is expected to be slightly above the Vertex series, which has dropped considerably in the past month.
