Mostly a collection of fixes and Flash support

Sony is getting into the holiday system update act with news that they are rolling out version 2.53 of the system software for the PlayStation 3. The majority of the updates seem to center mostly on stability fixes as well as swatting a few bugs. Sony was nice enough, however, to add full screen Flash player support with this release, as well as variety of updates related to Blu-ray.

Some of the other highlights that caught our eye included the revised account creation screens, as well new power settings that allow the console to be powered off after a download or installation. Chroma upsampling is automatically engaged when the momentum of objects on the screen can be enhanced to provide more detail.

When compared to the recent Xbox 360 update, the new 2.53 update really does not offer that much that PS3 owners are going to be able to show off to their friends. While the update does fix some things and add some things, given the timing of the release some PS3 owners might tend to be a bit disappointed.
