Austin 2008: What a Heck-a

AMD has
confirmed that 45nm tri-core codenamed Heca will come in the first half of 2009 and according to some information we gathered from our industry sources, we learned that three-core 45nm should be available already in February.

AMD didn’t want to talk about the specifics of this CPU, but we know that this three-core is a quad-core with one core disabled, with total 7.5MB cache or 3x512KB L2 cache and 6MB L3.

AMD wants to fight Intel dual-core dominance with its three cores, as it believes that marketing will buy a simple thought that three is better than two.
