Shanghai launch: Too important to miss

The man who will as of January work as a Senior Vice President of Sales at AMD, Emilio Ghilardi, told us during our short meeting that the netbook market is too important for AMD to miss out on. Emilio currently works as a Vice president and General Manager of AMD EMEA and after New Year's he will take over a piece of Henry Richard's job as a chief sales guy.

He implied in his rather illustrative talk that there is a new market that has to be rediscovered by AMD and this market includes processors that are currently not on AMD’s sales list, and it was implied that these products are cheaper from the current offerings.

When asked about netbooks and AMD’s plans to counter the Atom, Ghilardi said that this market is too important for AMD to miss it, but he shared our skepticism that this product also might hurt margins and average selling price. The new plans will be announced at a later date.
