Sales doing fine

Three is better than two, that's the key message of AMD's three-core CPUs. The company has confirmed that there is a roadmap that includes 45nm three-way plan and it’s likely that we will see these new chips in early 2009.

The three-core was picking up slower than the company expected but it is doing ok now, especially in OEM space. The 45nm roadmap has at least two different 45nm quad-cores, at least one 45nm three-core CPU and a new 45nm dual-core, something that company desperately needs.

Intel is winning over three-cores with its superior clocks of dual-core CPUs that can go all the way to 3.33GHz, while AMD is stuck with 2.5GHz core clock and even with three-cores it loses to dual-core Intel.

We can only hope that 45nm will help AMD’s odds in this eternal struggle.
