Intel can make it

Intel has canceled its 8060 5G modem to speed up things with its new all mode XMM 8160 solution. Intel is likely to sample the 8160 modem later this year which should be more than enough time for Apple to incorporate it in the iPhone 2020 (iPhone 20 anyone?).   

The phone trends in 2019

There is a clear trend toward a whole uninterrupted screen for end users to enjoy on their phones and every year we are getting closer to that. The trend includes more cameras, slide, and pop-up, all helped by computation and AI.

Judge recommends ban on some iPhones

ITC Judge MaryJoan McNamara has declared some verdicts. Apple is infringing one of three patents and she recommends a ban on iPhones manufactured in China being imported into the USA. This is a hardware patent 674 and it doesn’t look that there is a quick workaround.

The FTC and a coalition of tech giants, led by Apple, Huawei, Samsung, Intel, and LG, are fighting Qualcomm, more specifically, against the chipmaker’s licensing model and business practices.

Extreme battery life with Snapdragon X55 modem

Cristiano Amon, President of Qualcomm, just announced that the Snapdragon 8cx Always-Connected PC platform will get a 5G version. The Snapdragon 8cx SoC is matched with the Snapdragon X55 modem to support SA, NSA, and up to 7Gbps downloads speeds.

Next-gen MSM and 3rd gen modem

Cristiano Amon, the President of Qualcomm, has just announced the world first MSM platform that will have 5G integrated. He didn’t name it but it will feature the 3rd generation modem, that will follow up on the X55.

HDR10/HDR10+ Tone Mapping, smooth gaming 

Pixelworks recently scored a strategic agreement with HDM Nokia and just days before MWC the company announced its 5th generation Iris. Now, the company announced its next generation power efficient premier processor for mobile devices.
