I have my doubts that Kepler will be the shinning star that the new GCN based Radeon 7k series is. Unless Nvidia has pulled the rabbit out of the hat and made something that will blow our skirts up.

Amd deny any hidden stream processors, more likely the details in that slide relate to a dual gpu card. The HD 7790 pitcairn LE gpu has 1152 stream processors, if you double that up in a dual gpu config it gives you 2304 processors the same as in the slide shot.

see the biggest picture, & u'll see how everything adds up. 1) reason for high price of 7970 is obviously due to no competition. it's just business. 2) 7970 insane overclock ability suggest that AMD could hav easily launch the card at much higher clock, but decided not to. coz all the need is s to beat GTX580 by healthy margin, & keep the noise, power consumption & heat level down. 3) lastly, the most important piece of puzzle would be this leaked sapphire slide. http://www.chiphell.com/data/attachment/forum/201112/30/223709l171y2dy5l70l1jd.jpg if u look closely, supposedly there is a 2304 SP version. i reckon that by the time nvidia comes out with a rival card, AMD would release something like 7980 with full SP.

I'm surprised that the GK104 (can't even be 100% sure about that code name) is going to be as slow as anticipated now. Performance numbers aren't in yet but its not projected to be as fast as the GTX 580. DP should be a huge gain for the Kepler line though.

We're not trying to fight here, just state some facts. This round of 28nm GPUs is faced with the realism that we are not going to see the huge gains of the past. Every previous generation increased transistors and power. There's no available power left without going over the 300W spec.

Can only laugh of these AMD fanboys. Seriously. Do you think it will take A YEAR before we see a high end kepler.. By high end, i mean one that outperforms 7970. We will see that around March/April. Prob. around the same time you can actually GET ANY 7970s... Paperlaunch is the shit right? The midend Kepler should be 50-75% faster than 580 GTX. The high end 100-150%, and you think a 7970 is fast when its only about 15-20% faster than 580 GTX. I lol'd.
