Consoles need to be as cheap as possible. A 7770 inside the Wii U would probably make it cost more than a PS3. Besides, the R770 is a good deal more powerful than the current 360 or PS3 chip, so I guess they didn't feel the need go for anything crazy. TV's will probly be sticking to 1080p for a while. Anyway, the 7000 series hasn't launched yet, so I don't think it was an option for the design. All of the console makers will use the cheapest chip they can to meet the desired design goals.

The 7770 is the GPU that should have gone into the Wii U instead of a creaky old R770 Radeon 4870. You can bet this 7770 GPU will be in the Xbox 720.

"Made by gamers, priced for gamers" they were saying back in the "unleash one tera" era (4850). What do they say now for the 7000 series? Made by motherfrakers, priced for idiots?

Well, we will have to see what GCN and 128 bit bus combo brings us. I suppose the 7770 it will be better than 5770, but by how much? For 150 bucks it has to outperform the 6850 at least.

Bandwidth alone does not decide performance. The 5770 had similar performance to the 4870 despite the bandwidth disadvantage (76 GB/s vs 115 GB/s).
