@saneblane People who have Red cameras will most likely already have an optical storeage system set up as they have been around for many years in this market, the point of Light Peak was to bring this tech to $200 mobos but it just isn't feasible at current pricing. But more to the point how many devices does the average user (eg 95% of mobo manufacturers income) have that max out either USB 3 or eSATA 3? Or the 10Gbps Thounderbolt version?

This product is not for people like you, it's for people that needs to transfer high amounts of data all the time. The typical users for this type of transfer cable are owners of high quality Hd cameras like the sony nex fs100 or the redone. The price of the cable is nothing compared to the cost of the other equipments that pros typically use.

So, this article had practically nothing to do with Apple, but it requires mentioning that Apple products are overpriced not once, not twice, but THREE times in one sentence. I happen to agree with that opinion, but there is this saying we have about beating a dead horse...

And why should i prefer this over USB3??.Apple is going to love this though, since they love packaging technology that are behind and putting them in shiny new boxes and selling them like hot cakes.

Pfft, fibre optic cabling for Thunderbolt probably wont arrive until after 2015. There's no such thing as technology making a huge jump into the future when companies like intel are dragging you there by the collar whilst your face is scraping the glass covered concrete floor.

The original name for this Tech was called Light Peak and was based on high speed Fiber Optics at 100Gbps. This version is based on coaxial style cable running at 10Gbps. Personally the 10Gbps is BS, they should have stuck with Fiber Optics. Anybody saying Fiber Optics is too expensive is full of shit. I will only buy into this when they release the real Fiber Optic version.
