It's good to here AMD talking about a 40% performance boost over the HD 6900 series. That would equate to one single HD 7970 beating out the Dual-GPU HD 6990 card.

Still absolutely happy with my (reference design) HD6870. Bought it a year ago for 150€, and it kicks ass.. overclocks from a standard clock of 775/1050 to 925/1175 easily and stable and the cooler hardly spins any louder. I hope AMD brings out something similar to the HD6870 with the next generation.

Brand new architecture, transistor shrink, 400mm2+ die size, increase in memory capacity, speed and lanes, providing the architecture is a success this card should be an absolute [censored]er upperer for games, definitely close to a 2 fold increase in performance.

LOL, What I'm reading here is an nvidia's/Intel fanboy comment. 3000 series was far from being a failure and price/performance is the thing every average user is looking for, so that's not BS, even if in pure performance, it gets beatten. After all I've read from you, I have just one thing to say: stop being stupid. BTW; I'm no fanboy of any kind if that's what you think.

Maybe with water blocks. High-end GPUs haven't been one-slot cards in a long time. A one-slot cooler just isn't good enough when the chip is outputting >150W (sometimes more than 300W). It's entirely possible that they could make a chip with a 384-bit bus that dissipates less power and can use a single-slot cooler. However, this would be dumb as the shaders wouldn't crunch numbers fast enough to actually use the bandwidth of a 384-bit bus.
