And choice, there is plenty to pick from on the market at varying price points. WP7 seems priced too high for what they offer. I would say even 3% would be impressive in this field of many great phones to pick from.

^^^^This. I have a Samsung Focus and love it. It runs better than many current dual-core Android phones. A good friend of mine just bought an HTC HD7--a phone that's more than a year (gasp!) old--because he observed the same characteristics vs. Android in the Verizon store. Each Android phone has different UI stuff and carrier software which you can't uninstall. You can root and load a custom ROM, but he wanted a phone that would just work, and didn't want to install iTunes on his PC. User experience and customer satisfaction are better than Android on WP. Microsoft can make great software, they just suck at marketing it.

Best phone OS I have ever owned is WP7.5. It is fast(Yes, even with a single core SoC), a pleasure to use and very stable. I never have to reset the phone, not like my old EVO4 that continuously stalled or apps crashed which required a restart. But unfortunately for Windows Phone carriers don't push it like the iPhone or Android devices, because it is totally free of Carrier IQ keystroke tracking software. And when people hear Windows they think of complicated and crashing which of course is not true. I think Windows Phone will really take of once Windows 8 becomes available together with the updated WP8. Try it out on your iPhone or Android: aka.ms/wpdemo

"However, Nielsen did not differentiate between new Windows Phone handsets and old devices based on the Windows Mobile platform, which are still on sale. Interestingly Microsoft’s share is down from 9 percent earlier in the year and it is hard to explain the decline." No it's not! The 9% was mostly old windows phone users, as they migrate away market share drops unless WP7 gains at the same rate, which it isn't.

Is there such a thing as a windows phone? There a lot of phones based on Android, and the iPhone is readily available, but I had a hard time finding phones based on MS: there are very few models, and most of them are antiquated by now. Has anybody released a dual core Windows Phone? If so, I'd love to know. They can hardly expect to increase their market share unless they are actually release something.
