All true, but I was talking about the concept, not the design itself from a technical point of view. It's all about picking up good ideas, not directly copying them, or as businessmen say "innovation"

Well of course they want them to use it. That way Rambus can make money from the sale and then again from the inevitable lawsuit. Rambus is a horrible company and I'm glad AMD isn't getting involved with them. Do some research on Rambus...I find it amazing that the company hasn't been shutdown by the government and the executives thrown in jail.

To be honest, I Still think that Brazos is much more original then Atom. Atom was just an old p3 core shrunk down a few (in other words a metric 5hit tonne) processes/nodes. Brazos on the other hand was developed arround fusion (which is another idea intel will be stealing). Also Brazos isn't just a copy, it was AMD's attempt to head into the netbook market.

This is all speculation, AMD is not going anywhere, and IBM won't let that happen. What they need is a joint venture contract with IBM in regards to manufacturing processes such as the good old Athlon 64 days. Anyway, AMD will continue to do what they’ve been doing for many years, the only difference is they finally announced it. It’s competition as usual.

Just speculation on my part but is an interesting scenario.AMD seem to be giving up the battle with Intel in the higher end desktop cpu space. The will undoubtedly continue in the server market and are also strong in the lower end portable sector with their apu's. Its the comments about giving up the X86 battle that intrigue me. They have just canceled/postponed their lower end road map for wichita etc and have been getting very friendly with ARM. Are they considering an ARM/Radeon type apu for the low power sector. That would take them out of direct X86 competition with Intel and give them distinct power saving advantages...plus windows 8 is going to support ARM processors. How else can they combat intels process advantage?

Yup, but two can play at that game, AMD can also “borrow” ideas from Intel. Granted, it usually works the other way around. DDR support, integrated memory controllers - both were very innovative and effective AMD firsts, but they were adopted by Intel and perfected. However, AMD can also do this, albeit to a lesser extent. Take the most recent example, Atom vs. Brazos. AMD took a similar approach, went for a superior manufacturing process and offered superior performance at a similar price and beat Intel in a market niche created by Intel a year and a half earlier. Right now Intel is spending hundreds of millions on ultrabooks, through subsidies, marketing and development support. What if we see very similar ultrathin notebooks based on AMD 28nm chips in a year, with a much lower price? (Jest moglo i na nasem, al nek raja cita)

That's something I try to explain people whenever we start a discussion about AMD and Intel. Intel will take this architecture (or at least the idea behind it) that AMD presented with Bulldozer and make it even better thanks to their resource power. The state of x86 CPU market is kinda unhealthy because of the market ratio between Intel and AMD (about 80 - 20%), and that hurts innovation and competition... and end users even more.
