To most people, the iPhone is way acceptable for their purposes. This explains the loyalty and its price-point must also say a lot about the reluctance to change. ie higher switching costs. Those who outlive the value of iPhone will seek higher-end Android phone for sure. And those looking at WP must be visually challenged and mentally challenged to use a phone.

(Continued from above) In the end, I chose the iPhone. I primarily did so on the basis of the ecosystem. I liked the variety of apps and the smoothness and polished feel to the UI. Despite the smaller screen and slower download speed (3G rather than 4G, which makes little difference to me), it seems like a much more well-designed phone. Would I choose another phone? Perhaps. That depends on what's on the market at the time. There is a lot to like on this phone and I can see why people would want to stick with it. In the end, I'm a person who loves to build my own PC's and has a love for great hardware. I'm no cult member (except, perhaps, the cult of ASUS motherboards) but I love my iPhone.

I just don't understand all the hate towards the iPhone. I am by no means an Apple fanboy. I have, in the past, owned an iPod (way back in the day when they had clickwheels and hard drives inside). It was a decent unit, especially compared to all the shitty alternatives on the market at the time. That is the only Apple product I have ever owned. Until a month ago, anyways, when I bought an iPhone. When pondering my purchased, I weighed it against various flavors of Android as well as Blackberry. I quickly ruled out the Blackberry due to the rather lacking app market and the physical keyboard, which I was not too keen on. I was particularly interested in a few varieties of Android, including a couple HTC models. My brother has a HTC Desire and it is a great phone.

I don't think I'm getting a smartphone until I can get Zacate performance + Windows 8 on a 4.0 inch or 4.5 inch 1280 x 800+ RGB stripe (not pentile) screen. Then I won't ever have to carry my laptop around for casual tasks, just have to carry a bluetooth folding keyboard or something and a bluetooth mouse and a simple stand if I need to do any serious work outside the home.

You're not open minded if you want to change your platform, you're disappointed of your current platform. For example: I unboxed a Samsung Galaxy S2, just moving the image to unlock it was done with 1-2 fps, scrolling trough the aps, not as smooth as on a iPhone 4, a phone more than a year older, with a single core 800 MHz CPU, against the 1.2 GHz dual core CPU that is used by the Galaxy S2. The big problem is the Android OS - it was made in a shorter time to work on many more type of hardware than the iOS, so it is harder to optimize. iOS is a more mature OS, they started developing it a few years before launch, Google started copying iOS after iPhone launch.

For all the naysayers Apple's OS on computers and smartphones runs really well. This has always been the reason adults stay loyal. I have an Android and its ok but definitely not as smooth or polished feeling OS.

Is this really surprising? Why would anyone that already has one switch to another option where all their previous investments in apps and accessories become useless? Besides the competition out there really doesn't offer anything extra that serves as motivation to switch for most users. I gave up on the Android flavor of the week solutions as they simply do not have the ecosystem that Apple enjoys with accessories and 3rd party support.
