no, they could do so. the only issue would be how much? same as TSMC could buy into AMD, they don't have the cash reserves to buy out AMD but they could buy a chunck.

GlobFo once again messed things up for AMD. First it was the mess up with Bulldozer and now this. I am not blaming GlobFo for Bulldozer and its lack lustre performance. Though I would say the screw up is 40% GlobFo and 60% AMD. I think AMD should consider buying stakes in TSMC, but also keep stakes in GlobFo for now until it matures. Bulldozer is heavily relied on in the near term and is the future basis for upcoming CPU's and APU's. Correct me if I am wrong, but this new CEO will not only fix the issues associated with Bulldozer, but he will quickly and aggressively become competitive once again.

they can keep their stake in it, with all the arab money getting thrown at it pretty soon it will become a cash cow. this is assuming that there isn't another investment option that would better suit AMD's needs.

About time! Finally I see this new CEO making somewhat of a progress. They need to ditch Global Foundires all together...sell their stake. Hell even if TSMC can mass produce 32nm chips for them it's a win-win.
