I think I'll stick with my Phenom II X2 2.5@3.2GHz(air) for a while, until something simular cheap and performance wize come up and has either 1GHz more frequency or its 3.2 with 6 or 8 cores. P.S. I just had a mobo change not much time ago from a 790FX(SB750) chipset to a 990FX(SB950) chipset(sold it to a friend with no mojor demands), usb3.0, sata 6gbps etc :D

If they started working on this TODAY, products would be about a year away (with luck). The design work would be relatively easy, maybe a couple of months, but the process of refining a CPU design on a process takes many months. The CPU market doesn't move as fast as the GPU market; designs require more respins and steppings to achieve a viable product. They could better spend their time increasing Bulldozer's IPC, as that is their only desktop architecture moving forward. Bulldozer has a lot of little flaws that, if fixed, could add up to significant IPC and clock frequency gains.

Piledriver should be everything Bulldozer should have been. Though it sounds to me FM2 does not have enough pins for a 10-Core Piledriver monster in the near future. Socket AM3+ sounds like it has the ability to fully support more than 10-core CPU's and a nice Quad-Channel IMC.

I am thankful that I didn't bother to wait for Trinity to upgrade my Llano laptop. Went with a a8 3530mx instead. BD Trinity will largely be a disappointment for most expecting wonders of something that can't be fixed. Higher clocks on the gpu but weaker cpu performance wise.
While there is some thruth in that, AFAIK, the Athlon II X4 631, is simply a way to get rid of partly defective Llano dies. There could be room in the market for value-priced shrinks of the Phenom II X4 and X6. A couple of unlocked models with 95W TDP and corresponding base clocks would be a good start.

It's common knowledge, if you actually make architectural changes to a CPU, it requires a new socket. The fanboys will whine, but this is the real step in the right direction for AMD... if not long overdue. ^Oh yea, BernardP... thank god you're not in charge of anything at AMD!

Here's a free idea for AMD, considering that not everyone is interested in integratted graphics (Llano/Trinity), and that Bulldozer is a disappointment. ---> Just shrink the Phenom II X4 and X6 to 32nm, for higher clocks and/or lower TDP. At least, it will give AMD something to sell as a stopgap.
