Point being is not accounting, its the fact their profits are very small and they have a big debt load relative to competitors. This meager cash flow limits what they can throw into R and D. Both of their competitors have billions in free cash. Business is war, and money is ammunition.

all llanos and brazo's are counted under the CPU division. the graphics division doesnt see a dime of that... administrativel y anyway. you could give the graphics half the money they made per llano and brazo and the story would be different. also, nvidia is active in far more markets then ATI was. and GPGPU was a fairly lucrative market for them. consumer graphics wasn't the reason nvidia made more money then ATI/AMD's grahpic division.

From AMD's quarterly report: Graphics segment revenue increased 10 percent sequentially and 4 percent year-over-year. The sequential increase was driven primarily by seasonality in the add-in-board market. The year-over-year increase was primarily driven by increased discrete mobile graphics revenue. -- Operating income was $12 million, compared with operating loss of $7 million in Q2 11 and operating income of $1 million in Q3 10.

Where did u get these numbers, I just can't believe AMD did more than 10 times less compering to NVidia. AMD sold a few millions DX11 cards before Nvidia had its DX11 card. With BD sales won't go up, Trinity should be different story though. Read the quarterly statements. They are public record.

Their discrete graphics division made 12 mil. Nvidia made 160 mill. Intel made twice as much profit as AMD had revenue. They are really struggling to compete. They have almost 50% debt to equity. Intel and Nvidia have lots of cash and no debt. Hope they survive.

ATI would still have a market for low end GPUs becaus AMD would still be using ATI gpus in AMD CPUs... If that license/agreement says AMD engineers and ATI engineers are to work together to make Fusion then I don't see what the problem is. The GPU engineers don't need to touch the X86 licensed instructions, they only need to touch the interconnect transistors so I don't see a X86 license legal problem here.

I think that Bulldozer is not as bad as they made it to look bad in reviews... one thing that is truth is that most reviewers always use games that dont matter..and they put gfx on medium no AA no AF. Who play on medium and no AA no AF?? Guru3d tested in Far Cry 2,let me just remind you that FC2 is OLD and Intel optimized,FC2 even had DLC called Intel bonus missions!!! Why he still insist testing on that crap , cuz they are all sold souls...

and ATI would agree to basically not have a market for their low-end GPU anymore why? with a licence AMD also wouldn't have had access to ATI's GPU engineers, that they needed to develop brazo and llano, licence or not.
