The Original SGX535 in the iphone 3GS was only delivering a third of its theoretical peak due to bandwith issues with the single LPDDR interface. The twice as fast 200mhz SGX540 in Samsungs Hummingbird wasn't too much better with only one 32bit LPDDR2 channel. Omap4s GPU has almost twice the clockspeed (381mhz) but also more than twice the bandwith (dualchannel LPDDR2@533mhz). That means it Practically kills all Adrenos+Malis and comes very close to Apple SGX543mp2. The SGX 543 may have twice the amount of shaders but still has the same amount of SIMDs. Apple uses a 2-core SGX543 with very low clocks, comparable Frontend performance, theoretically twice the shading power but same bandwith.

Not exactly... The A4 has SGX535 graphics - SGX540 is twice the size, twice as fast... But it's still a bit slower than the SGX543

Awesome processor with a crap GPU. I find this annoying, especially given the number of pixels it will be expected to push in the Nexus Prime (720p). Considering that the A5 came out back in February with the 543mp2, which is dramatically faster (look at 4S/ipad benchmarks) this seems like a half assed effort (same GPU as 2 yr old A4).
