Part2/2 And that X58 was so long live. Well that is obviously becuase with Nathelem Intel launched the high end stuff first and with Sandy bridge they launched that mainstream first. Hardly something that needs a lot of analysis. This gap cannot obviously be as big again as Intel cannot make do the exact same swap in high end / low end launches again. In fact this article is just an insult to everyone intelligence. There does not need to be a rumour about it being ready as we already have kit out their being previewed by websites. Wait I get it the news was posted 6 months ago and through some temporal anomily has only just shown up....

Part 1/2 I don't get this news story. Hasn't everyone and their dog known for at least the last 6 months that Intel are bring out the high end Sandy Bridges at the end of 2011. And that x79 will be the chip set they run on. And that in effect this replaces the X58 chipset I completely fail to see where the news is here. Unless I am missing some inside joke this is a complete waste of webspace.

I think Ivy bridge is definitely the one to wait for. By then hopefully PCIe3 is sorted and competition from AMD will drive prices down.

If Intel came out and 100% guaranteed that LGA-2011 would be around for a minimum of 2 generations, ie High-End Ivy Bridge, then i would invest in it but you just never know with Intel so i'm not going to spend big bucks in a betamax or HD DVD! AMD need to do the same too, if they properly announce how long chipsets will be around then people will not hold back in fear that it might not be around 2 minutes. If AMD had said AM3+ was going to be around so long as it has been they would have had my money already and i would be gearing up to give them more but upgrading to Bulldozer any day now.
