AMD has always historically borrowed naming schemes from intel (and vice versa) it goes back to the first chips that were cheaper knock-offs of intel - nothing new here but I agree, black edition has its roots and should have been continued

damn...beat me to it. was wondering about the "k".... black edition always sounded cooler anyway. im certain most consumers are unaware of a model number in most cases anyway. all they know or care to know is....QUAD CORE,,, 3GHZZZZ, us informed folk will obviously know the diff.... To me a "k" when only looking at amd stuff wouldn't inform the customer that it is better, for all they know, it could be the indicate a lower watt version. BLACK EDITION speaks to the consumer better.

Got to admit seems odd that AMD chose to add 'k' to their CPU's. The cynical part of me thinks maybe they hope it will confuse the consumer and they would rather have a 3870k over a 2600k... AMD should have stuck with 'black edition' imho..
