This is one of the areas where I don't get Intel. Since they have a lot to catch up to in the MID space, why not leverage all their resources? Intel own their own manufacturing facilities and are pushing the bleeding edge on those. If the architecture isn't all that appealing on its own, why not push the fabrication advantage and make their new MID SoCs the first chips out of the door on 22nm 3D-gate technology? I mean, those chips are bound to be minuscule compared to the Ivy Bridge ones anyway so it's not like they'll eat up all the capacity at 22nm. And then there's this need to push x86.. I realize it's Intel's schtick but seriously now, backwards compatibility with desktop Windows software isn't a compelling feature in MID space.

Epic fail, arm is making 28nm chips already dual, quad and even octocore via arm15 chips and even 60 cores of gpu for the tegra 4. For next year as well. Who's the chip giant now? Intel will loose apple and even some server business to arm as well as the pc market with windows 8. Even the arm9 chips comming out in the fall will be clocked @ 1.5 ghz dualcore new nexus prime phone and android 4.0 icecreamsandwit ch

Gotta respect the Intel spinmachine. ARM has the CPUs now, AMD has the CPUs now, and Intel can control behaviour by saying "Just wait twelve months, and we'll have the CPU too!"
