Each final version of Firefox has been tested for 6 weeks in nightly, 6 weeks in aurora and 6 weeks in beta. Unless you run into extension problems I would suggest you keep up to date. If you want a good reason besides security: Firefox 6 lowers memory usage when using panorama. Firefox 7 lowers memory usage overall(40%) and increases graphics performance.

Understandable; IE had absolutely no development for five years, IE9 is still behind the other browsers (and I keep finding bugs with newly implement features that have existed in other browsers for years). It's simply time to move people away from Microsoft products as a whole. A good way to demo IE9 against other browsers is to show non-technical people WebGL demonstrations. Keep in mind that Chrome = Google and Google is essentially in the business of marketing, if you don't know what that implies time to look up what Facecrook does with people's information.

I though Google started this version frenzy when they moved from version 6 a year ago to version 15 today. IE?... who's that? I'm just moving to 5.0.1... better to have a stable and extensible browser than the latest one.

Adds support for server-sent DOM events, Web Sockets and HTML5 dataset & data-* attributes. Server-sent DOM events are useful for having the server contact your computer (the client) when a new message is received in a chat room for example instead of your computer constantly pinging every X milliseconds (which also wastes server resources). Web Sockets: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Sockets From a web designer/developer's perspective this counts as Firefox 4.2 though before M$ fanboys jump in keep in mind that IE9 does not support HTML5 video element (H.264 = Hollywood commie patent trolls); Flash will be used for video in to the 2020s, likely the 2030s because of IE10.
