Trinity APU's probably won't have twice the SP's of Llano, but they will have more. Llano uses the VLIW5 architecture, and Trinity moves to VLIW4. This means they'll be able to fit more SP's in the same area, and might increase GPU area some as well. After all, 2 BD modules should be smaller than 4 Stars cores.

That all depends on the architecture at hand, right now Llano is their first APU that gets to deal with large amounts of data, and the first problem arose. If engineers mark this problem, the next APU might solve it. AMD won't stop here, they will put the entire mainboard logic on the die in few years from now, so this problem needs to be solved. I'm curious as to how well BD performs in memory tests.

Kryojenix, did you really believe tablets will make for a good product base? I didn't. Sure, tablets will have some use to some people, but that's very limited and not very profitable. Maybe if AMD want more products on the market they will persuade HP to, but that all depends on how much money AMD will make in the next 12 months. marketing and lobbying costs.

Trinity is based on BD, for now we don't know how big a BD module (2 cores) is compared to 2 Stars cores. Also even if it will be bigger and more expensive to manufacture, the performance will be higher, 1 BD module might do the work of 3 or 4 Stars cores. Plus lower core count (2) have a better TDP wiggle room so they can be clocked higher (than 4). This should put a 2-core + 800 sp Trinity at a lower chip cost but equal llano performance or even grater in graphic tests, or a 4-core + 800 sp at a higher cost but also much higher performance in all areas.

I doubt this information as it makes little sense to mash more stream processors in there when the architecture is severely memory-limited. Current APUs don't perform anywhere close to discrete cards with the same number of stream processors and the discrepancy is more than clock speed alone would account for. AMD would be far more likely to work on the memory interface and efficiency of existing streaming processors as simply adding more of them would only increase performance in a handful of scenarios. Ie. it's not worth the die real estate.

if trinity or whatever apu is next can at least reach the performance of mainstream discrete graphics for instance if llano currently had a ~hd6770,6850 and trinity had a ~hd7850 etc.etc.... then nvidia has BIG problems...this will surely force intel and nvidia to make a deal...intel will probably pick up nvidia pretty cheap and then let the games begin!

I was really hoping for a Llano-based TM2 successor, but they've just killed off the whole line. Maybe there'll be renewed interest whenever Win8 ships.
