@bardneck no this is the truth in all game: kill this kill that , collect this collect that, kinda like in free MMORPG . boring as hell and repetitive, BUT borderlands is all about GUNS... I think that every weapon combination gives number of 18 millions combinations , but that was in version 1.0... IMHO game is very funny and has some gr8 RPG ellements and its unbeatable FPS IMHO, cuz u can shoot all day and, trust me just try to play if u havent its well worth it...

I still have to try New Vegas... But don't get me wrong, I own Fallout 3, and I like it as well. I just find some elements too stale for my taste. Just saying Borderlands is a lot more fun for me (don't forget COOP, replayability, VERY VERY FUN DLCs, and the 'crazy' randomness of items)!

One last point, and don't get me wrong, I've had fun with both games, but, a mission in Borderlands is usually go kill 2-head or whatever, take his gun and something, deliver it back to questgiver, exactly like an MMO. In Fallout by comparison, someone will ask you to do something, you can simply do it, you can defy them by joining the other side, accept it with your mind set on backstabbing them, or just kill everybody. In New Vegas I helped the "good" guys while behind the curtain I was working together with someone neither the good guys nor the "bad" guys considered relevant(Mr. House for people wondering) this was my own choice, New Vegas is an example of just how open a world can be imo.

So you can't go explore in Fallout? I doubt you've played it for long because one of the things I spent most time on in Fallout was exploring things unrelated to the main quest, Borderlands takes the MMO route on this. You're last point, hah, no.

They are both set in the post apocalyptic world, and are action RPG games... I don't know how they are that much different? Fallout 3 quests set me to sleep, and this 'open' world wasn't any more open than the Borderlands world. It's really small, and I, most of the time, felt as if I was constantly narrowed in by it's size (Oblivion had a similar feeling) and the quest path you have to take. It's NOT an open world if you have to constantly follow a quest to another quest, etc. If you get my point xD A better example of an open game? Look at how Eve is, or even better Mount & Blade!

Fallout is an entirely different game, and you're sort of touching on the key difference, Borderlands is suppose to be fun, it's cartoony in the art style as well, where Fallout is a more serious story. Personally I like Fallout more because of how open the world is and how your choices will shape it. Borderlands is fun with friends, but hardly as deep as Fallout.
