It seems a lot of people lack the knowledge of CPU architectures. There are differences between AMD BD and Intel SB and how they work. You cannot directly compare an AMD BD core to an Intel SB core. An AMD BD core is about half size of Intel's and is packed with another BD core in a package called a module. Simple explanation: An Intel Core core can process two threads as a same time "1thread : 1core" "2threads : 1core" Intel HT combines 2 threads into 1 and put it into 1 core An AMD BD module can process one thread on two cores "2threads : 1 module (2core)" "1thread : 2core" AMD BD module divides 1 thread into 2 with schedule then processed by 2 cores in that module. AMD BD module is exactly opposite.

that is very true about the two 460's etc, that is the route i went with to 460 sonic platinums but those will always argue of the dual 580 domination route! i play in 1080 and 1 gtx 580 or 2 gtx 460's will last me until the gtx 7x0!

I guess my main reason is there isn't much point in a 580 for $470 when you can get two GTX 460s or 6870's for much less than $400 that handily beat it in a large majority of uses, mainly gaming.

Ruling the GPU arena and having the fastest GPU are two different ideas. They certainly have the fastest single GPU. And who knows if AMD will turn around. They are far behind, but not that long ago (4-5 years) the old ATI looked a lot like AMD does now. Remember how poorly the 3870 matched up and how badly they were losing marketshare? I think we all hope AMD comes back, if they will or not, nobody knows.

@mrmessma then what does it mean when a company creates the most powerful single gpu....nothing? do you think for a second if amd could put out a single gpu capable of beating or even matching the 580...they wouldn't?? every company has a bad year once in a while, but when it comes down to know how and capability NVIDIA wins hands DOWN! that may not be what the market wants, but amd couldn't deliver if it was. oh and amd will never match intel...too far behind with too little market share, although i wish they could, fusion is there only hope, to beat out intel graphics and push out nvidia and it's discrete only company, unless tegra takes off.
